BOOK REPORT of JANE EYRE and THE SECRET GARDEN

Jane Eyre is a novel written by Charlotte Bronte ,simplified by Malvina G..Vogel.The story is set on the eve of the experience of the author and people around her .Charlotte Bronte was born in 1816.She was one of six children of a poor country preacher .When she was young ,she attend Cowan Bridge ,a school for clergymen’s children . She publish her first novel ,Jane Eyre,in 1847 .It was an instant success .She dies of tuberculosis in 1855 .

In this story Jane Eyre is an orphan .Her parents have died when she is just an infant ,and her mother’s brother ,Uncle Reed ,take her into live with his family at their estate ,Gate Shead .He is kind to Jane ,but he die， too when Jane is three .His wife ,Aunt Reed ,and their three children John ,Eliza and Georgiana turn against her and make her life miserable .They always enforce Jane to do and tell lies to their mother about her .Aunt Reed is a cruel and arrogant woman who always punishes in rude ways .When she is ten years old ,she is sent to Lowood school, where the food is disgusting and the rules in it are extremely strict .The people in Lowood school are treated badly .Jane Eyre and other children suffer the physical and mental punishment .What’ worse , they often starve and have to bear the cold weather .They often enforce to stand on the cold stool for serval hours .Jane Eyre meets a young girl called Helen Burns who shares a lot with her and become her best friend .A massive typhus epidemic sweeps Lowwod , and Helen die of it .Jane spends eight more years at Lowood ,Six as a student and two as a teacher . Then she becomes a governess at a manor named Thornfield which’s employer is a dark impassioned man named Rochester ,Jane find herself

failing in love with him .On the wedding day ,Jane find that Rochester already has a wife ,Bertha . Rochester does not deny this ,but he explains that Bertha has been already mad .Knowing that it is impossible for her to be with Rochester ,Jane leaves Thornfield sadly . Finally Jane get a large reperty from her uncle .She goeuch as back to Thornfield and finds that it has been burned to the ground by his mad wife who loses her life in the fire .Rochester loses his eye sight and one of his hands . At Ferndean ,Rochester and Jane finally get married . Rochester regains sight in one eye and they live a happy life forever.

After reading it ,I an deeply impressed by the character of Jane .Although she is insulted by her aunt and her cousins ,she never has surrendered herself to all of setbacks .Compared with the tolerance and obedience of Helen Burns ,Jane resist to the people who treat her badly .Jane considers love should be base on the equality.

Don’t need paying much attention to the social background, wealth and appearance , if they love each other. Nowadays, people think highly of external elements. They always think the appearance, background and wealth are the most important.

When people are treated unfairly, they are accustomed to accepting all the those things. They are rare man can do like what Jane does . We cat obtain a lot from Jane.
